Yukon Public Schools is committed to using a high-quality system of assessments to improve student academic outcomes. By utilizing data from formative, interim, and summative assessments, teachers are able to make informed decisions regarding effective instructional strategies. Administering assessments and gathering data are integral parts of the academic cycle. Each component drives the next in a cyclical pathway; curriculum drives instruction which drives assessments, which provides results to reflect on the instructional strategies that have been implemented. This cycle allows for informed decision making at the class, school, and district levels.

Placement Testing

Prior to enrolling in Yukon Public Schools, students who were previously homeschooled or enrolled in a non-accredited school shall be assigned to a grade level or class based upon an assessment of the student's age, maturity, grades received, available standardized test results, and/or abilities in accordance with Administrative Regulations. -Yukon PS School Board (OAC 210:35-25)

More information on Placement Testing.

Proficiency Based Promotion

Students can advance forward by subject, course, or grade level based upon mastery of the Oklahoma Academic Skills demonstrated with a score of at least 90% on the district administered proficiency test(s). Grade level tests are available for grades 1-5, and course-specific tests are available for grades 6-12. Before a final decision is made for advancement, a team consisting of a parent, administrator, counselor, and teacher will discuss the social and emotional implications as well as the intellectual needs of the student. Interested students are asked to contact the school principal or counselor for more information, or the Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment (CIA) Office at (405) 354-6608. Information can also be obtained by email (angela.bilyeu@yukonps.com)
